Soul's Remnant Guide — New Player Basics & First Steps
Soul's Remnant Guide for new players: world map search, Return Crystals, guild perks, CON points, campfires, shared storage and keybinds to start right.
Updated Aug 19, 2026
Soul's Remnant is a free 2D platformer MMORPG, and the fastest way to enjoy it is to learn a handful of systems on day one. This guide covers what to do in your first hours: follow the Quest Master, use the world map search, keep a Return Crystal handy, join a guild, and know your keybinds. Every detail below comes from the official wiki and player reports checked in mid-August 2026.
Talk to the Quest Master first
A magic barrier keeps you penned in around Spawn, so your first move should be speaking with the Quest Master, who stands just to the right of the Great Campfire at Spawn. Open the Quest Board and accept the leveling questline he offers. The tutorial quests then walk you through learning a skill, assigning your 5 starting stat points, killing slimes, equipping gear, drinking a potion, and leveling your basic attack.
Use the world map search
Open the world map with M and look for the search bar in the top-right corner. Type the name of a monster or gathering material and press Enter: every map containing what you searched for appears in the sidebar. Click a name to see that map's details, and if it is not a hidden map, your view will center on it. This is the fastest way to plan a grind.
Keep a Return Crystal in your Use tab
Return Crystals are sold by the Shop Keeper at Spawn for 400 Soul Crystal each, and they are also craftable via Alchemy. Use one anywhere in the overworld (except near other portals and a few special areas) and it creates a pale white portal that lasts about a minute and takes anyone back to Spawn. At 400 Soul Crystal it is 100 cheaper than warping directly, and it works on maps without Goddess Statues. Keep one or more in your Use tab at all times.
Know what dying costs
Taking lethal damage turns your character into a spray of soul particles and sends you back to Spawn. Death costs time, not progress, but you still want to avoid it in the level 20+ zones. In group content like Dungeons, Minigames, Party Quests, and the Abyss Trial you do not return to Spawn — your party has a shared pool of 3 respawns that bring you back inside the activity instead. Sources differ on whether that pool is per player or per party, so treat the exact count as to verify in-game.
Join a guild early
A helpful guild is one of the best ways to stay alive. Guild Perks go far beyond survivability: they boost your damage, EXP gain, item drops, and more. Even if you play solo most of the time, a guild gives you people who can revive you, trade with you, and run dungeons.
Put a few points into CON
Even 5 points into CON noticeably increases your health pool and adds 1 DEF. You do not need a pure CON build — just enough that early zones cannot one-shot you. The usual launch-week advice is to keep about 25–30% of your points in CON and put the rest into your main damage stat.
Place campfires when you recover
Placing a Campfire creates light and increases the health and mana recovery of everyone nearby. Campfires cannot be placed in dungeons, in water, or under water, which makes them especially valuable for long outdoor grind sessions. Keep a few on hand when hunting monsters above your level.
Use the Magic Storage Chest at Spawn
The Magic Storage Chest at Spawn is shared storage with 100 extra inventory slots and a stack limit of 500. Its contents are shared between all your characters, are used automatically while crafting at Spawn, and can be sold to villagers or through the Auction House. Your own inventory has 4 tabs of 28 slots each with a stack limit of 99, so as you progress you will want Backpacks — villagers at Spawn sell them.
Save your loadouts and unlock Transmutation
The Equipment, Stats, and Skills windows each have numbered boxes at the top. For a small Soul Crystal fee you can save your current setup in one box, save different setups in the others, and switch with one click. The grayed-out square at the bottom of your Equipment window is for Transmutation, a life skill unlocked after reaching Alchemy level 15 that changes your weapon's element for a cost based on the item's value.

When to try the Abyss Trial
The Abyss Trial is one of the hardest pieces of content to complete, and it fully supports party play. It has several checkpoints so you can progress in stages, and weekly rewards keep players coming back. Bring a party and go prepared.
